BOSS - COLLECTION
DESIGN INTERN | July 2018-May 2019
SPRING 2019, FALL 2019, SPRING 2020
After graduation, I started an internship at Hugo Boss as a design intern on their BOSS collection team. There, I was able to learn how an altelier design studio works, and more about the entire design process.
The original contract was for 6 months, however I was lucky enough to have my internship extended twice, for a total of 11 months, which allowed me to see two runway shows, and design on three collections.
Coming into the design season for Spring 2019, I assisted with sketching, leather patchwork layouts, and fabric sourcing.
I also assisted backstage during the fashion show, learning the ropes on pre-show styling and tailoring, among other backstage work.
SPRING 2019
During the Fall 2019 design season, my responsibilities grew.
I assisted with draping, sketching, research, and development of the entire collection end to end. this included researching and selecting multiple types of leather and furs, and draping patchwork ideas of leather and fur. I also worked on a large scale boarder print, though it was ultimately not used. I also helped assign projects to the runway assistant, and helped manage the backstage for the runway. When we hired an additional intern, I was tasked with delegating projects to her and make sure all of our work was on target for completion.
FALL 2019
Towards the end of my internship, I worked on special techniques and in-house prints to be used for the collection. Layered lace, striped leather, leather chainmail, and woven plaids, etc. I worked closely with the atelier team and design director while working on these, and was given creative freedom to explore the limits of what we could do.
